Financial Aid to pay for summer classes is very limited. Following is the primary aid available for the summer 2012 semester:
Pell Grants
If you are Pell eligible, you will only have Pell Grant funding for summer if you have not used 24 credits worth in fall and spring. If you were enrolled full time (12 or more credits) in fall 2011 and spring 2012, you will have no Pell eligibility. The Pell 2 program, available in summer 2010 and 2011, has been discontinued by the federal government.
Federal Student Loans
Federal student loans are only available to students who enroll at least half time (six credits) and have not used their entire 2012 loan eligibility in the fall 2011/spring 2012 semesters. Any eligibility will be added after you enroll at least half time (six credits) for summer 2012.
The Direct Stafford Loan Limits are listed at Stafford Loan Limits. Loan eligibility has annual as well as lifetime limits. You may view your federal student loan history at NSLDS, using your FAFSA PIN to log in.
Summer class registration opens in MyUB on March 14th. Classes begin May 29, 2012. Students enrolled in classes at the beginning of the term will be charged, regardless of financial aid availability. Students must withdraw from classes on or before May 28th to avoid being charged.
Your summer student bill will be due May 25th. You are responsible for any amount over your anticipated financial aid on or before that date.
