The Facts on Financial Aid

Applying for Financial Aid

STEP 1:
Complete your UB application.

STEP 2:
Submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.gov. The first step in applying for student aid, FAFSA is the document that the federal government uses to determine how much of your tuition you are able to pay, and how much money you are eligible to receive. UB also accepts the paper version of the FAFSA, available at most colleges and universities. Please include University of Baltimore school code 002102 on your application.

STEP 3:
Determine your eligibility for a UB merit-based scholarship by completing an application form. Eligibility is based on your cumulative grade point average regardless of whether you plan to enroll full or part-time.

STEP 4:

When to Apply

Our best advice is this: Apply for financial aid as early as possible. The earliest you can apply is January 1st for the fall semester. While you can apply anytime throughout the school year, the State of Maryland Priority Deadline is March 1st. DO NOT put off applying for aid until you’ve selected the school you want to attend. Apply early to qualify for the largest award possible.

Applying for Financial Aid

Applying for financial aid doesn’t have to be a hassle. Just keep the following advice in mind:

  • Once you have accepted your admission to UB, you will receive a MyUB account. Access to all financial aid directions and forms are found on the left side of your under My Student Center. For assistance with logging into MyUB, contact the OTS Call Center at 410.837.6262 or callcenter@ubalt.edu.
  • Apply for aid every year and complete your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as early as possible. The State of Maryland’s Priority Deadline is March 1st. Remember your FAFSA Pin number, as you will need it often. Apply at www.fafsa.gov. The University of Baltimore School Code is 002102.
  • Documents needed by the Office of Financial Aid will be listed on your MyUB ToDo list. Mark all documents clearly with your name and student ID number. If you do not know your ID number, log into your MyUB and look for the My ID Info section on the far right of the screen. You may fax documents to 410-837-5493. If you need to confirm receipt before that time, we will need to know the approximate time your document was sent and what fax number you used to send. Please allow up to three business days before checking your account.
  • Keep copies of all paperwork.
  • Processing of applications and awards begins after the March 1 priority deadline for new students, and every June for returning students.

Tips to Avoid Delays in your Application

  • Review your FAFSA Student Aid Report (SAR) for accuracy.
  • Determine the loan amount you will need for the academic year. See costs of attendance.
  • Do not submit multiple loan changes.
  • Keep your local address current on MyUB. You may update your address on MyUB, in the My Student Center area.
  • Provide consistent, accurate information on your application and documentation.
  • Submit documentation with any appeals you file. An appeal without documentation cannot be considered.
  • Tell the Office of Financial Aid about any scholarships, graduate assistantships or other outside resources you will receive.
  • Check your UB email account often, as that’s where all communications from the Office of Financial Aid will be sent.
