Doing good in our own backyard
the University community’s efforts to assist Baltimore citizens
While we can tell the stories of countless UB individuals who continually work to better their local, national and global communities, the power of these acts is exponentially amplified when students, faculty, staff and alumni get together to do good.
Take, for example, UB’s annual Higher Education Readiness and Orientation for Exceptional Students, or HEROES Academy, which has brought to campus more than 700 students from eight area high schools since 2008. During a day chock full of college-level coursework (with a fun twist!), the students get a feel for UB’s campus and for a day in the life of a University student. UB’s faculty, staff and students have committed more than 2,000 volunteer hours since the program’s inception.
UB staff members contribute annually through their departments to provide holiday gifts to local families in need, and students, faculty, staff and alumni participate in annual Community Service and Make a Difference days, during which they take a break from campus and go into the community to provide free services to organizations.
But we don’t have to tell you about the good we do. You can see for yourself by clicking through our photo gallery.
