Date of Collection: 1922-1973

History: Originally chartered in 1922 as the Baltimore Criminal Justice Commission. In 1965 the name was changed to Criminal Justice Commission. In 1970 it became the Mayor's Committee on Criminal Justice and is non-political .

Mission: The Commission was formed through efforts of citizens and groups of civic, business and professional organizations. Founded in response of citizens to "spectacular daytime robbery, murder... organized for charitable, educational and scientific purposes... research crime, criminals crime control and examine the administration of criminal justice in Md." "It also hopes to promote and secure an intelligent and efficient administration of criminal justice... through constructive and helpful cooperation..."

Description: Primarily a reference file, originally established for use by the Commission. In includes: reports, newspaper clippings, studies, conference proceedings and manuscript material related to the mission of the organization and its operation.

Topics include: Juvenille delinquency, correctional institutions, Baltimore Police Department; courts; and grand jury reports.
