Academic Outcomes Assessment

About the University of Baltimore

In October 2003, The University of Baltimore Outcomes Assessment Committee was convened as an outgrowth of the University's strategic planning process. The Outcomes Steering Committee is tasked with leading the University of Baltimore in creating a comprehensive learning outcomes assessment plan to maintain current accreditation and to further enhance the quality of education at the University of Baltimore.

We have created this site as a resource for all instructional staff as we implement our new strategic plan. We will announce conferences, grants, offer tips and training - just check out our site from time to time.

Student learning is one of the goals in the new University-wide strategic plan:

Goal 4: The University of Baltimore will create a culture of assessment and evidence-based decision-making across all units of the University.

Discussion: The University of Baltimore will regularly consider issues of quality, need, efficiency, currency and effectiveness in evaluating extant programs and planning new ones. Evidence-based academic and administrative decisions will be made in light of strategic planning priorities.

  • Objective 1: Implement a culture of assessment across all units of the University through appropriate faculty and staff training in assessment techniques.
  • Objective 2: Assist individual units in developing mechanisms appropriate for measuring achievements of their planning goals and objectives.
  • Objective 3: Improve resources available to the Office of Institutional Research to support, record and analyze assessment data for strategic unit decision-making in support of institutional goals.
  • Objective 4: Participate in appropriate assessment and accreditation activities to monitor and evaluate improvement, such as those conducted by the University System of Maryland (USM), Middle States Association, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the Association of American Law Schools (AALS) and the American Bar Association (ABA).
  • Objective 5: Utilize assessment results both internally and as a marketing tool in recruiting and fundraising.
