Data and Indicators Strategically The Alliance strives to
ensure that groups come away with the skills to use data and indicators strategically
for neighborhood improvement. Specifically we help groups: -
Know
the definitions of data and the Vital Signs (and how to get them)
and interpret what these show about changes a given area;
-
Ask
questions and investigate the answers when presented with statistics (like
in the newspapers, etc.);
-
Interpret the information to tell
the neighborhood's story to explain what is happening in the area that
may be contributing to changes in the trends;
-
Base neighborhood
improvement strategies and goals, and even re-direct existing efforts,
given what the trends show;
-
Plan neighborhood improvement
projects and strategies relative to an overall result a group wants to achieve;
-
Designate the outcome indicators (particularly the Vital
Signs) that will help neighborhoods track long term progress and assess the
overall impact their efforts may have on the community over time;
-
Determine
short-term performance measures that mark immediate successes along the way;
- Obtain
data and indicators needed by using the Alliance's resources: the Vital
Signs, Alliance website, and the Alliance staff and partners.
