Mid-Atlantic Regional Hearing on Voting Rights

When:
Location:
John and Frances Angelos Law Center
Room:
Moot Court
Description:

The National Commission on Voting Rights is hosting hearings across the country to learn more about the current landscape of elections, and the law school's Prof. Gilda Daniels will serve as guest commissioner. Over the past few years, numerous states have enacted restrictive voting laws, while many others continue to grapple with recurring election administration and electoral reform challenges. The Commission will document what keeps voters from the ballot box and election reform efforts that expand access.

There will be formal panels of witnesses representing voting rights organizations, community leaders, election officials, and other stakeholders, as well as opportunities for voters to speak about their own experiences. Voters from Maryland, Delaware and Washington, D.C., are encouraged to register to attend or submit testimony online

Come testify on problems, successes and opportunities for reform in all aspects of voting in your state, including:

  • voting changes in your community;
  • voter suppression;
  • voting discrimination;
  • election administration;
  • issues for individuals with disabilities, language minority voters, communities of color;
  • student voting;
  • voter registration.

The event is free and open to the public. All who are interested may attend and/or speak. We expect to hear from voters, community leaders, advocates, elections officials and more. For more information, please contact Rose Clouston at rclouston@lawyerscommittee.org.
