Free Legal Consultations for Maryland Nonprofit Organizations

The University of Baltimore School of Law’s Community Development Clinic and Community Law Center present a day of free legal consultations (by appointment)  for Maryland nonprofit organizations. Saturday, Oct. 25  from 9 a.m-noon and 1-4 p.m. The event will be held in the Clinical Law Offices on the second floor of the University of Baltimore John and Frances Angelos Law Center, 1401 N. Charles Street, Baltimore, MD (Corner of W. Mt. Royal), just one block from Penn Station. The law school is close by parking and public transportation routes.

•    Are you getting lost in the process of creating a new nonprofit or tax exempt organization?
•    Have you had questions about “nonprofit” or “tax-exempt” status but had no one to ask?
•    Is your Maryland nonprofit, community, or neighborhood organization no longer in good standing or lost its tax exempt (501(c)(3)) status?
•    Are you trying to advocate for something for your community and running into challenges as a group or organization?
•    Do you have any questions pertaining to legal issues or best practices for running your organization such as director duties, annual filing responsibilities, fundraising rules, or employment concerns?
Sign up for an appointment for a free 45-minute legal consultation for Maryland nonprofits! An experienced lawyer and student attorney(s) (practicing pursuant to Rule 16 of the Rules Governing Admission to the Bar of Maryland) will conduct a brief interview, review relevant documents, and provide a free legal consultation to Maryland community groups and local nonprofits regarding organizational matters and legal questions that they bring to the meeting.

Appointments are strongly recommended.  Please call Melanie at 410.837.5653 or send an email to with your organization’s name, your name and contact information, and your availability for appointments 9 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m.  We will get back to you with a confirmation a week before the event, at the latest.  Walk-ins will be seen on a first come, first served basis.
Attendees with issues that require help beyond our 45-minute appointments will be encouraged to apply for legal representation through the Community Law Center and granted a waiver of the customary $100 application fee for the first legal matter.
