National Conflict Resolution Day
- UB Student Center
Problems with: a significant other, coworker, classmate, professor, parent, sibling, manager? Please join the Negotiation and Conflict Management Student Association in our celebration of Conflict Resolution Day. We will have a table set-up on October 20 to bring awareness to peaceful conflict resolution approaches.
Please stop by to discover your conflict style with a brief assessment. October has become a time to promote and celebrate peaceful conflict resolution practices worldwide. Dedicated dispute resolution practitioners are helping to educate the public about mediation and other innovative conflict management processes. Conflict Resolution day falls annually on the third Thursday in October. During this week the American Bar Association also sponsors mediation week to promote alternative dispute resolutions.
Conflict Resolution Day was conceived in 2005 by the Association for Conflict Resolution to: Promote awareness of mediation, arbitration, conciliation and other creative, peaceful means of resolving conflict; Promote the use of conflict resolution in schools, families, businesses, communities, governments and the legal system; Recognize the significant contributions of (peaceful) conflict resolvers; and Obtain national synergy by having celebrations happen across the country and around the world on the same day. (Excerpt from http://www.acrnet.org/) What’s your Conflict Style? How do you handle Conflict? Are you more likely to Compete, Cooperate, Collaborate, Accommodate or Avoid? Why is my conflict style important?
Well, have you heard of the saying, “Ignorance is Bliss?” It doesn’t apply here! Being aware of your specific conflict style gives insight into the way you handle conflict and the subsequent way others may respond.
