Chris Norman Ensemble

The Chris Norman Ensemble is a quartet led by Nova Scotia native, flutist, piper, composer, and educator Chris Norman. This versatile ensemble presents a broad range of music that centers on the traditional music of Maritime Canada, Quebec and the traditions that have nourished it: dances and airs of Scotland, Ireland, Brittany, the US. Additionally, the group explores points of contact between music of the Scottish renaissance, baroque and traditional music, as well as the contemporary compositions of Chris Norman. Hailed as one of the finest flute players of our time, Chris Norman proves over and over again that the simple wooden flute is the original and still unsurpassed woodwind of expression, passion, joy and subtlety. Renowned for his expressive playing, engaging personality, and breadth of repertoire, his keen historical sense leaves audiences with a deeper appreciation of how traditional music sings across the centuries with timeless beauty, wit, and vitality.
