Misinformation, disinformation and so-called "fake news" have always been part of our media landscape. What has made these phenomena so troubling in the 21st century is the amplification effect of the internet, especially social media. This discussion will address the issue of misinformation, disinformation and "fake news," as well as what, if anything, can be done about them consistent with the First Amendment.

Panelists are UB Law Prof. Emeritus Eric EastonProf. Jasmine McNealy, a journalism professor at the University of Florida; and UB Law alumna Prof. Sandy Banisky, J.D. '93, a journalism professor at the University of Maryland at College Park.

Moderating the discussion is Dean DeWayne Wickham, distinguished professor and founding dean of the College of Global Journalism at Morgan State University.
