Book Talk, "How American Criminalizes Black Youth"

When:
Location:
John and Frances Angelos Law Center
Room:
12th Floor
Description:

Join the School of Law's CFCC and CCJR for a conversation with Kristin Henning, author of the 2021 book, "The Rage of Innocence: How America Criminalizes Black Youth."

In her book, Henning -- Blume Professor of Law and director of the Juvenile Justice Clinic and Initiative at Georgetown Law Center -- describes the double standard with which society judges the behavior of white and Black adolescents. What is typically dismissed as normal teenage experimentation and healthy risk-taking by white youth is much more likely to result in criminal charges and incarceration for Black youth, with far-reaching consequences.
