Recreation Center Policies

  • Membership

    Recreation Center membership is on an individual basis. Only valid and current University of Baltimore staff/student/faculty and Recreation Center members may use the Recreation Center facility. All members must present valid UB ID upon arrival at the front desk. Individuals using the facility without checking in will be escorted out of the Recreation Center.

    All membership fees are due at time of signing up. You must have a valid Picture ID, Payment, and Proof of eligibility for certain membership rates that we offer in order to have a membership with Campus Recreation and Wellness (CRW).

  • Refund

    All memberships including guest passes are non-refundable and non-transferable.

  • Guests

    Students, Faculty, Staff and Recreation Center Members can purchase one day passes for guest who would like to use the Recreation Center for $5 per visit. Guest must be 18 years of age or older and always be accompanied by the sponsor as well as remain in the same recreation area. Guests are not permitted to participate in Sport Clubs, Intramural Sports, Golf Lessons, Equipment Check-out, or Personal Training Programs.

    Guest Passes are available for purchase at the CRW Main Office during open hours. Guest passes may be purchased for immediate use only. To purchase a guest pass, both the sponsor and the guest must present valid picture ID at the time of entry into the facility. A maximum of two (2) guests per sponsor is allowed. Guests must agree to and follow all CRW rules and policies.

    Guest passes are non-refundable and non-transferable. Sponsors are financially responsible for loss or damage to equipment or facilities committed by their guests, and may be held responsible if their guests fail to comply with facility rules and regulations.

    Intramural Spectators

    Guests are permitted as spectators for intramural contests at no charge. However, the guest spectators must sign in with the Facility Supervisor and follow all Recreation Center and Intramural policies while in the facility, in addition to the following:

                  • Guest spectators are restricted to the designated area where the event is being held.
                  • Guests may not participate in any way in Recreation Center activities.
                                  • This includes shooting baskets, playing pool, getting on fitness equipment, etc.

    Outside Personal Trainers

    Personal training is restricted to only those individuals that have been specifically employed by CRW. Any participant observed to be personal training with a member in the facility that is not employed CRW personal trainer may have their Recreation Center privileges suspended or revoked at the discretion of the Executive Director.

  • Access Control

    Proper University of Baltimore identification must be shown when entering the building. CRW staff reserve the right to ask for additional forms of identification at any time. Members who have forgotten their University of Baltimore ID card will be allowed access up to three (3) times, which will be denoted on their account. After the third allowance, a member will not be given access to the facility without their valid University of Baltimore ID.

    Stairwell 1 and the elevator are the main entrances into the Recreation Center. All other access points should only be used in the event of a fire or other emergency. Anyone violating the policy will be escorted out of the facility.

  • Lost and Found

    Campus Recreation and Wellness is not responsible for lost or stolen articles. Participants are encouraged to secure all personal belongings and store them in the lockers. Day locks are available at the equipment desk and semester locks are available at the CRW Main Office. Items found unattended should be returned to the CRW Main Office.

  • Equipment

    Equipment and supplies in the Recreation Center are property of the University and should not be misused, abused or removed from the Recreation Center. Any damaged equipment returned or not returned by closing time is the responsibility of the member who checked it out.

  • Towels

    Towels are given out at the front desk for your convenience. Please place towels in the bin by the front desk after the completion of a workout.

  • Lockers

    • All lockers are the property of the University of Baltimore and members using lockers must also abide by the policies in the Recreation Center. The use of a locker by a person other than to whom it is issued is prohibited.
    • Misuse of a locker may lead to cancellation of the locker agreement and membership to the facility.
    • Please visit the CRW Main Office to register for a semester locker. All members may register for only one locker per semester.
    • Only Recreation Center locks may be used on semester lockers (short lockers).
    • Personal locks may be used on day-use lockers only and must be removed upon departure for the day. Any personal locks will be removed at the end of each day and contents of the locker will be bagged/tagged and held for one month, after which the items will be donated to a local charity.
    • All items must be stored completely within the locker. Items left outside the locker will be removed and disposed of accordingly.
    • The Recreation Center is not responsible for lost, stolen, damaged, or missing items from a locker. Members are advised not to store any valuables.
    • The Recreation Center reserves the right to open your locker with or without your consent in instances where locker procedures are being abused or in cases of an emergency situation.
    • Flammable or chemical materials, weapons of any kind and illegal substances are strictly prohibited. Additionally, no perishable items are to be stored.
  • Food and Drink

    No food or drink is allowed in the Recreation Center. Water in resealable plastic containers is acceptable. Glass containers are not allowed in the Recreation Center.

  • Facility Reservations

    Use of any CRW facility for personal or monetary gain is not permitted. Facilities may not be used for private instruction or to provide service without written permission from CRW. Campus organizations and departments may submit a facility reservation request form 14 days in advance of the event date for approval. All non-university organizations are not permitted to reserve facility space. For sport clubs, please refer to the Sport Clubs Handbook.

  • Media Use

    The use of any equipment with the purpose of taking pictures or video, including the camera feature on electronic devices, is strictly prohibited inside the Recreation Center without prior written approval from the Associate Director of Facilities.

  • Posting

    Posting any items on any Recreation Center bulletin boards and walls is strictly prohibited without prior written approval from the Associate Director of Facilities

  • Music

    If you have a request to change any audio/visual settings on the televisions and radios, please notify CRW staff in the CRW Main Office. Changing these devices is at the discretion of the Facility Supervisor on duty.

    Patrons using personal stereos must have headphones.

  • Aerobic Studio

    Policies

    • Please arrive early for group fitness classes.
    • Sanitize mats and equipment after use.
    • Do not remove equipment from the studio.
    • Additional equipment is available to check-out at the equipment desk.
    • All stereo/audio equipment must be operated by a Recreation Center staff member.
    • Report any equipment problems immediately to the equipment desk.

    Dress Code

    • Appropriate athletic shoes only. Only closed toe shoes, non–marking shoes for wood floors are allowed. Open toe shoes, street shoes, boots, and sandals are prohibited.
    • Appropriate sports apparel including shirts, shorts, sweatpants, tank tops, and spandex accessories must be worn at all times. Belts and jeans are prohibited.
    • All loose jewelry must be removed.
  • Boxing and Plyometric Rooms

    Policies

    • Additional equipment is available to check-out at the equipment desk.
    • Please return any equipment taken from other rooms to its original location.
    • Do not remove equipment from the studio.
    • Additional equipment is available to check-out at the equipment desk.
    • All stereo/audio equipment must be operated by a Recreation Center staff member.
    • Report any equipment problems immediately to the equipment desk.

    Dress Code

    • Appropriate athletic shoes only. Only closed toe shoes, non–marking shoes for wood floors are allowed. Open toe shoes, street shoes, boots, and sandals are prohibited.
    • Appropriate sports apparel including shirts, shorts, sweatpants, tank tops, and spandex accessories must be worn at all times. Belts and jeans are prohibited.
    • All loose jewelry must be removed.
  • Cardio Room

    Policies

    • During peak hours please limit your time to 30 minutes on each machine.
    • Clean up after yourself. Wipe off machines after use.
    • Report any equipment problems immediately to the CRW Main Office.
    • Equipment or accessories are provided for use within the cardio area.
    • Return magazines when finished.
    • Do not change the TV Stations. Ask the Facility Supervisor in the CRW Main Office for assistance.
    • Do not place bags or personal belongings on top of or behind equipment.
    • Appropriate athletic shoes only.
    • Appropriate sports apparel only.

    Dress Code

    • Appropriate athletic shoes only. Only closed toe shoes, non–marking shoes for wood floors are allowed. Open toe shoes, street shoes, boots, and sandals are prohibited.
    • Appropriate sports apparel including shirts, shorts, sweatpants, tank tops, and spandex accessories must be worn at all times. Belts and jeans are prohibited.
    • All loose jewelry must be removed.
  • Golf Room

    Policies

    • During peak hours, and/or if there is a wait, please rotate your usage of equipment.
    • Report any equipment problems immediately to the equipment desk.
    • Equipment or accessories are provided for use within the golf room and are not to be removed from this area or the facility at any time.
    • Everyone is responsible for cleaning up after themselves.

    Dress Code

    • Appropriate athletic shoes only. Only closed toe shoes, non–marking shoes for wood floors are allowed. Open toe shoes, street shoes, boots, and sandals are prohibited.
    • Appropriate sports apparel including shirts, shorts, sweatpants, tank tops, and spandex accessories must be worn at all times. Belts and jeans are prohibited.
    • All loose jewelry must be removed.
  • Gymnasium

    Policies

    • Threatening or indecent conduct, including fighting is prohibited.
    • Hanging on the rim and goalposts is not allowed.
    • All basketballs and other gym equipment must be returned to the equipment desk after use.
    • All scheduled CRW approved programs and leagues will be honored. All other times not scheduled will be for informal recreation on a first come, first serve basis.
    • Appropriate athletic clothing and foot wear must be worn at all times.
    • Report any equipment problems immediately to the equipment desk.

    Dress Code

    • Appropriate athletic shoes only. Only closed toe shoes, non–marking shoes for wood floors are allowed. Open toe shoes, street shoes, boots, and sandals are prohibited.
    • Appropriate sports apparel including shirts, shorts, sweatpants, tank tops, and spandex accessories must be worn at all times.
    • All loose jewelry must be removed.
  • Mat Room

    Policies

    • Additional equipment is available to check-out at the equipment desk.
    • Please return any equipment taken from other rooms to its original location.
    • Do not remove equipment from the studio.
    • Additional equipment is available to check-out at the equipment desk.
    • All stereo/audio equipment must be operated by a Recreation Center staff member.
    • Report any equipment problems immediately to the equipment desk.

    Dress Code

    • No shoes are allowed on the mat.
    • Appropriate athletic shoes only. Only closed toe shoes, non–marking shoes for wood floors are allowed. Open toe shoes, street shoes, boots, and sandals are prohibited.
    • Appropriate sports apparel including shirts, shorts, sweatpants, tank tops, and spandex accessories must be worn at all times. Belts and jeans are prohibited.
    • All loose jewelry must be removed.
  • Racquetball Courts

    Policies

    • Lensed eyewear designed for racquet sports is strongly recommended to all participants to protect from eye injuries. Players who require corrective eyewear are strongly recommended to wear lensed eyewear designed for racquet sports.
    • Only non-marking balls are allowed.
    • All racquets must have a protective bumper or be taped with a material designed for racquets.
    • Racquetball racquets should have a wrist strap which is to be used at all times.
    • Doors must be closed when racquetball courts are in use.
    • Racquet balls and goggles are available at the equipment desk.

    Dress Code

    • Appropriate athletic shoes only. Only closed toe shoes, non–marking shoes for wood floors are allowed. Open toe shoes, street shoes, boots, and sandals are prohibited.
    • Appropriate sports apparel including shirts, shorts, sweatpants, tank tops, and spandex accessories must be worn at all times. Belts and jeans are prohibited.
    • All loose jewelry must be removed.
    • Goggles are strongly recommended for all participants to protect from eye injuries.
  • Sauna

    Policies

    • Notify a staff member at the front desk for use.
    • Only one gender is allowed in the sauna at a time.
    • Towels must be used when sitting on benches.
    • Prior to entering, please allow 5 minutes to cool down after exercising.
    • Exercise is not permitted while using the sauna.

    Dress Code

    • All loose jewelry must be removed.
    • Towel must be worn when sitting. Nudity is prohibited.
  • Spin Room

    Policies

    • Sanitize bike after use. Disinfectant wipes are provided
      in the facility.
    • Please arrive early for group fitness classes.
    • Use shoe clips properly to avoid the possibility of injury.
    • All stereo/audio equipment must be operated by a Recreation Center staff member.
    • Report any equipment problems immediately to the equipment desk.

    Dress Code

    • Appropriate athletic shoes only. Only closed toe shoes, non–marking shoes for wood floors are allowed. Open toe shoes, street shoes, boots, and sandals are prohibited.
    • Appropriate sports apparel including shirts, shorts, sweatpants, tank tops, and spandex accessories must be worn at all times. Belts and jeans are prohibited.
    • All loose jewelry must be removed.
  • Weight Room

    Policies

    • During peak hours, and or if there is a wait, please rotate usage of equipment.
    • Everyone is responsible for cleaning up after themselves. Wipe off machines after use. Towels & disinfectant wipes are provided in facility to wipe off equipment.
    • Report any equipment problems immediately to the equipment desk.
    • Equipment or accessories are provided for use within the weight room and are not to be removed from this area or the facility at any time.
    • Keep hands and feet away from all moving parts and weight stacks.
    • Do not pull pins on weight machines while weights are in use.
    • Please do not drop the weights. Patrons will be responsible for all damage to equipment from being dropped.

    Dress Code

    • Appropriate athletic shoes only. Only closed toe shoes, non–marking shoes for wood floors are allowed. Open toe shoes, street shoes, boots, and sandals are prohibited.
    • Appropriate sports apparel including shirts, shorts, sweatpants, tank tops, and spandex accessories must be worn at all times. Belts and jeans are prohibited.
