Attend five approved co-curricular activities during your UB career: lectures, workshops, conferences, professional association meetings, etc. For more information on this requirement, view the Participation Events Handout (PDF).
Before you graduate as a Corporate Communication major, you must attend five approved events. (Note: This policy does not apply to students who began the major before Fall, 2000.) These have to be completed by the time you apply for graduation. That is the first Friday of the semester in which you plan to graduate. Failure to comply could (and has in the past) delay graduation and freeze your transcript.
You may do all five in one semester or spread them out over your UB tenure; it's up to you. These might be professional association meetings, on- or off-campus workshops or conferences, literary readings, etc. Beginning Spring 2007, only one of the five may be a software workshop.
We will e-mail events announcements to your UBmail address as they come in. That list goes to Corporate Communication majors only. If you are not receiving updates, please check your status in MyUB. Qualifying events are tagged Participation. If you would like to attend an event that's not on the list, see Julie Simon, Jon Shorr, or Daniel Page for permission prior to attending the event.
Within one week of the event, write a paper that includes your name, the name and date of the event, and a three-or-four sentence summary of your reaction to the event. It will be placed in your file. Make sure you keep a copy. Do not e-mail this document, hand it to an instructor in the hall, or shove it under an office door. Place it in Julie Simon's mailbox on the 3rd floor of the Liberal Arts & Policy Building (10 W. Preston St.) to insure you get proper credit.
Check out the many film, video and digital workshops from Creative Alliance, any of which count toward your participation requirements.
