> UB Auxiliary Services Welcomes New Employees and Vendors

As we begin the fall 2003 semester, it seems like a perfect opportunity to introduce the UB community to the new employees and vendors in Auxiliary Services. As you know, Auxiliary Services is responsible for many of the contract services on campus (bookstore, food service, vending, library copiers and pay phones) and well as conference services, student, faculty and staff parking, the publishing center and the Mt. Washington athletic facilities.

We are pleased to introduce our new sales and marketing manager, E. Jean Devito (edevito@ubalt.edu, x5138), and conference services coordinator, Zach Griffey (zgriffey@ubalt.edu, x6730). Jean is responsible for the integration of our advertising and marketing efforts and obtaining new conference/event business. Jean is a graduate of Fairmont State College and most recently served as associate director for Auxiliary Services at the Johns Hopkins University.

Zach's responsibilities include event planning as well as supervision and training of the conference services reservation and setup staff. Zach is a recent graduate of York College in York, Pa., and received his bachelor's degree in sports management with a minor in business and marketing. Their offices are located in the Auxiliary Services Department on the fifth floor of the Academic Center.

In addition, Auxiliary Services welcomes two new outside contractors to campus. Jay's Restaurant Group, who will manage our retail and catering operations, and Blind Industries of Maryland (BISM), who will manage our vending operations.

Jay's Restaurant Group (1309 N. Charles Street) will oversee the Raven's Roost, the Academic Center kiosk and the Business Center kiosk. In addition, Jay's is the exclusive catering company for external events held at the University of Baltimore.

The Raven's Roost, located on the lower level of the Law Center, is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

The Academic Center kiosk, located on the first floor of the Academic Center, is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m. and from 4-8 p.m. Friday hours are 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

The Business Center kiosk, located on the lower level of the Business Center, offers service from 3-8 p.m. Monday through Thursday each week.

The menu will vary slightly from location to location; however, all of the basics are there, including soups, subs, sandwiches, wraps and salads (pasta and tossed), as well as fruit, hot dogs, assorted pizza, soft pretzels, assorted beverages, snacks and cookies/brownies. Prices are competitive.

The onsite manager, Glenn Kotelchuck, will be operating out of the Raven's Roost and can be reached at 410.837.4122. Call Jay's Catering Department at 410.685.3861, x3 to place a catering order. The general manager for retail and catering operations is Diana Ebert, who be reached at 410.685.3861 or via e-mail at Diana@jaysdeli.com.

As customer service-driven organizations, Jay's and Auxiliary Services want to hear from their customers. Comment cards are available at all of the retail operations. Those wishing to correspond via e-mail can address their comments/suggestions to Barbara Aughenbaugh, associate vice president of Auxiliary Services, at baughenbaugh@ubalt.edu.

BISM is providing snack-vending service at eight locations throughout the campus. Coca-Cola machines are not affected by this change. The Maryland General Assembly established BISM in 1908 to provide training and employment opportunities for blind and multi-handicapped blind citizens of the state so that they may enjoy the self-esteem that comes from self-sufficiency.

"We welcome both our new employees and our new contractors to the campus," says Aughenbaugh. "We are pleased to have them on board and look forward to working with them and to providing quality services to the campus community."
