Reaccreditation Self-Study Continues; Steering Committee Announced
The University is continuing to ramp up the process for its 2006-07 reaccreditation review by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education: A self-study design, entitled “University of Baltimore Self-Study Design: Strengthening Foundations for the Future,” has been completed and is available for review. In addition, the members of the reaccreditation steering committee and seven subcommittees have been announced.
Details for both of these additions can be seen at http://www.ubalt.edu/selfstudy/. Catherine Albrecht, associate professor of history and a provostal fellow, says the UB community is encouraged to provide feedback regarding the self-study.
“We hope for broad campus participation in the self-study process and plan to host an open forum in the fall to elicit input from faculty, staff and students,” Albrecht says. She also noted that an exact time and place for the forum will be announced as soon as possible.
The self-study process is part of an extensive, once-a-decade review by MSCHE.
Sprucing up A worker cuts concrete around the curb at the intersection of Mt. Royal and Charles in front of the William H. Thumel Sr. Business Center, as part of an effort to eliminate rough surfaces along the bottom of the wheelchair access ramp. UB improved the curb there and on the corner in front of the Academic Center, where asphalt abutting the curb had created a bump. The corners were leveled and sealed, which also will help keep rain from puddling there as the campus enters the damp fall months.
Registration Begins for UB’s Race for the Cure Team
The UB community is once again planning to participate in the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Race for the Cure. The 5K (3.1 miles) walk/run will be held on Saturday, Oct. 1 at the M&T Bank Stadium, beginning at 8:30 a.m. For the $30 registration fee, you will receive a UB team shirt and an official long-sleeved Race for the Cure shirt. You can also be a Sleep In for the Cure participant and receive your shirt even if you can’t meet the UB team at the stadium.
“We are hoping for another great turnout of UB students, faculty, staff, alumni and others to join our team for the ninth annual race,” says Suzanne Behr, director of Academic Advising for the Yale Gordon College of Liberal Arts.
Registration for this event is available online through Sept. 18 at www.komenmd.org. Click on the “Race for the Cure” button and type in “University of Baltimore” when you’re prompted to provide a team name.
