The Early Law School Entry
Jurisprudence Program
in the Legal, Ethical & Historical Studies Division
at the University of Baltimore
The Jurisprudence-Early Entry Program substitutues the first year of law school for the last year of college.
Applicants for the Early Entry Program are to have earned a grade point average of at least 3.5 in courses transferred
to the university. All applicants should be interviewd by the program
director prior to admission into the program.
Requirements
- Philosophy (6 credit hours).
- PHIL 301 Ethics or PHIL 490 Theories of Justice
- PHIL 317 Logic of Language
- History (6-9 credit hours). Early Entry Jurisprudence students must take at least six credits of history
courses, including:
- At least one of the following
- HIST 310 Ancient Civilizations
- HIST 311 Emergence of Europe
- HIST 312 Age of Revolutions
- HIST 313 Europe 1815-1914
- HIST 314 Europe Since 1914
- HIST 317 Early America
- HIST 318 Modern America
- HIST 320 America Since 1940
- HIST 446 History of Christianity
- HIST 466 History of Africa
- HIST 468 American Political History
- HIST 475 Topics in Women's History
- And at least one of the following
- HIST 331 English Law and Society to 1689
- HIST 332 English Law and Society Since 1689
- HIST 340 American Legal History
- HIST 377 New South and Civil Rights
- HIST 434 American Constitutional History
- HIST 438 Great Trials in History
- HIST 440 History of the Common Law
- Government (6-9 credit hours). Early Entry Jurisprudence students must take at least six credits of
government courses, including:
- At least one of the following
- GVPP 300 American Political Institutions
- GVPP 322 Bureaucracy and Public Policy
- GVPP 326 Urban Politics and Public Policy
- GVPP 344 American Presidency
- GVPP 345 The Legislative Process
- GVPP 348 State and Local Government
- GVPP 362 Media and Government
- GVPP 384 Comparative Government
- GVPP 461 Maryland Govt. and Political Processes
- And at least one of the following
- GVPP 340 Constitutional Law
- GVPP 341 Civil Rights and Civil Liberties
- GVPP 381 American Political Thought
- GVPP 382 Political Ideologies
- GVPP 425 Administrative Law and Processes
- GVPP 427 Democracy, Ethics, and the Administrative Process
- Electives (6 credits maximum). Early Entry Jurisprudence students may count up to six credits of electives
from among the following courses towards their 96 hour total:
- Communications (3 credits)
- CMAT 300 or 303 Public Speaking or Oral Communication in Business
- CMAT 320 Argumentation, Debate, and Society
- WRIT 314 Writing Workshop: Argument and Persuasion
- Statistical Methods and Evaluation of Evidence (3 credits)
- GVPP 408, SOCI 403, CRJU 302 Research Methods
- APST 308 Statistics for the Social Sciences
- Economics (3 credits)
- ECON 300 Principles of Economics or ECON 307 Money and Banking
- By permission: Students may count one additional three credit course in English, history, philosophy, government,
criminal justice, sociology or psychology towards their 96 hour total with the permission of the Program Director.
