GMAT Waiver Policy for M.S. in Accounting and Business Advisory Program

You need to provide us with GMAT scores unless you satisfy one of the criteria below for a GMAT waiver. You are eligible to a GMAT waiver if you have:

  • You have a valid CPA certificate. Please include proof of the certificate/licensure with your GMAT Waiver request.

  • You've earned an advanced degreeĀ (master's or higher; includes J.D.)

  • You've earned a 3.25 GPA or higher and at least 5 years of progressive professional experience.

  • You've earned a bachelor's degree from an AACSB accredited school of business and earned a GPA of 3.25 or higher.

  • You've completed one of the accounting-related graduate certificates offered by the University of Baltimore Merrick School of Business with a GPA that is 3.25 or higher.

  • You've earned a bachelor's degree from UMBC in Financial Economics or you've completed their Accounting Certificate, with 3.25 overall GPA and 3.0 GPA in accounting coursework.


In addition, applicants to the M.S. in Accounting and Business Advisory Services (MSABAS) are not required to take the GMAT exam if they hold the following professional certifications:

  • CIA (Certified Internal Auditor Certification)

  • CMA (Certified Management Accountant)

  • CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst)

  • CCA (Chartered Certified Accountant, international designation issued by Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA))

  • CA (Chartered Accountant)

  • CGFM (Certified Government Financial Manager)

  • CDFM (Certified Defense Financial Manager)

The GMAT waiver may also be extended to applicants who may have passed the qualifying exams for the above professional certifications but not have an active license, provided the applicant has significant professional experience in those relevant fields as an accountant, auditor, financial analyst, government financial manager or defense financial manager.
