Cohen, assistant professor in the University of Baltimore's Klein Family School of Communications Design, tells the website Quartz that the human tendency to use "filler words" such as "uh" and "um" in everyday speech can be overcome. Doing so can have a dramatic effect on how people perceive a speaker, Cohen says.

The University of Baltimore, its College of Public Affairs and the Jacob France Institute in its Merrick School of Business are serving as the lead university partner to facilitate the United Nations' Sustainable Cities Initiative for Baltimore. Now the group has announced 16 goals for the city and is soliciting feedback through a series of brief surveys.
