A celebration of some of the best in the current Asian cinema—including Hayao Miyazaki's Howl's Moving Castle, Ang Lee's Lust, Caution, and Bong Joon-ho's The Host—will be presented Nov. 4-5 by Spotlight UB, the University of Baltimore's Office of Diversity Education and Programs, and the International Services Office. The Asian Film Festival will take place in the UB Student Center Performing Arts Theater, 21 W. Mt. Royal Ave.

Howl’s Moving Castle is a groundbreaking animated fantasy film about a young girl who fights a witch’'s spell. It was the only animated film to appear on the British Film Institute's Best Movies of 2005 list. It will be screened on Wednesday, Nov. 4 at 3:30 p.m.

The Host follows an unremarkable family thrown into extraordinary events. Dubbed the "Asian Jaws," the film is both an action-packed thriller and a cautionary tale of environmental desecration. It will be screened on Wednesday, Nov. 4, at 7 p.m.

Lust, Caution is an erotic spy thriller set during the Sino-Japanese war. According to the L.A. Times, the film is "a brooding meditation on the unnerving power and terrible cost of emotional and political masquerades." It will be screened on Thursday, Nov. 5, at 7 p.m.

Tickets for the Asian Film Festival are available online at www.etix.com and are free to UB students; general admission is $2.

Spotlight UB features concerts by artists from the worlds of classical, folk and ethnic musical traditions, as well as open-mike nights, live comedy, drama, and one-of-a-kind performances.
