Pianist Guity Adjoodani, whose playing is described by the Washington Post as "impeccable … opulent," will perform as part of the University of Baltimore's "Spotlight UB" series on Saturday, Oct. 6. Adjoodani, a conservatory-trained musician born in Iran, will take the stage of UB's Student Center Performing Arts Theater, 21 W. Mt. Royal Ave., beginning at 7:30 p.m. (Ticket information below.)
Adjoodani's romance with the piano began at the age of five in her native Iran. She holds a Masters Degree in Music and an Artist Diploma in Performance from the Boston and New England Conservatories, respectively. She has studied with Hertha Aldama, Marie von Unschuld, Katja Andy and Theodore Lettvin. She was awarded full scholarships to the Berkshire Music Festival in 1972-73 and has performed in chamber music concerts with the Festival Orchestra under the batons of Leonard Bernstein, Seiji Ozawa, Bruno Maderna and Michael Tilson Thomas.
Adjoodani has performed regionally at the Kennedy Center, the Renwick Gallery in Washington, D.C., George Washington University, Towson University and the Corcoran Gallery of Art. She has performed with various orchestras under renowned conductors Rouben Gregorian, Maurice le Roux, David Sonnenschein and Gunther Schuller. Adjoodani has also served on the faculties of numerous music schools including the Boston Conservatory of Music, the Tehran Conservatory of Music, the Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts in Annapolis, the Baltimore School for the Arts and the Peabody Institute of Music.
The Washington Post said of her work: An “impeccable pianist…. Adjoodani plays with the soul of the best late-nineteenth century romantics. Her tone was opulent, her articulation beautifully defined and her sense of phrasing felt as if it had been imparted to her directly from the spirit of Iranian peasantry.”
Adjoodani’s program at UB will include the following:
Ballade in G Minor, Opus 23 Frederic Chopin
32 Variations in C Minor, Wo 080 Ludwig van Beethoven
Sonata in F Minor, Opus 57 ("Appassionata")
