The University of Baltimore has received a Gold Award from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education for its latest round of recruitment publications, as entered in the 2009 CASE II Accolades Awards. UB's "What's On Your Mind?" brochures, produced for the Yale Gordon College of Liberal Arts by the Office of University Relations, received the top award in the category of "Student Recruitment: Packages."
The "What's On Your Mind?" campaign (see a PDF), designed in-house, is a series of printed brochures providing an overview of the college's array of graduate program offerings. Through lighthearted illustrations and easily scanned text, recipients of any of the various brochures in the series can learn the program’s basics as well as the degree’s value in the marketplace.
Miriam King, senior vice president for the Division of Enrollment Management at the University of Baltimore, said the campaign successfully conveys the institution's approach to graduate education in the liberal arts as approachable, yet highly prized.
"These pieces let you know what we value in the liberal arts—our emphasis on excellence and accreditation, while at the same time our determination to work with our graduate students as they differentiate themselves in the market," King said. "The first thing you see is an image that asks what you are thinking about as your personal or professional goals, and then some talking points about the intersection of those goals and the University. We believe in this realistic approach, and obviously our peers are picking up on that."
CASE noted that UB's efforts in creative planning, production and promotion of its programs merit the "accolades and admiration" of its fellow institutions.
This is the second time that the "What's On Your Mind" campaign has distinguished itself. Last May, the campaign was one of two at UB to win an American Inhouse Design Award, announced by Graphic Design USA, for nonprofit, institutional and corporate in-house departments.
The University of Baltimore is a member of the University System of Maryland and comprises the School of Law, the Yale Gordon College of Liberal Arts and the Merrick School of Business.
