The first woman to be appointed to her current position, Richkus was named one of "Maryland's Top 100 Women" by The Daily Record in 2000. She also serves as construction adviser to the Maryland Board of Public Works, as chairperson for the Maryland Green Buildings Council and as co-chair of the Maryland Charity Campaign. Richkus is the former senior vice president of Buchart-Horn, a planning, design and construction firm. Her University of Baltimore involvement includes serving on the Alumni Association Board of Governors, as a mentor to students and alumni and as a guest lecturer, and she is also active in the Charles Village community.
The University of Baltimore Alumni Association's Alumni of the Year Award is given each year to three alumni in recognition of professional accomplishments, contribution to the University and community involvement. Richkus will be honored at the 35th annual Alumni of the Year Awards Luncheon on Friday, Nov. 8, at the Hyatt Regency Baltimore.
