UB students Sean McDonough, Courtney Smith, Kerrin Smith, Victoria Williams, and Rachel Wooley will perform the short plays and poetry they developed during the Armagh Project residency in Northern Ireland this past summer, as Spotlight UB presents Reflections and Echoes: Plays and Poetry Inspired by N. Ireland, on Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. in the Wright Theater in the University of Baltimore Student Center, 21 W. Mt. Royal Ave. In addition to these new student works, UB Theater Events Coordinator Kimberley Lynne will debut her play Hood, also inspired by the trip to Ireland.
McDonough's play Gathering Doom re-tells an ancient Irish myth of a talking head and three-headed monster. Smith's play All Roads Lead to Belfast explores the faith-based tensions between pen pals. Smith's Canvas looks inside the mind of a Belfast terrorist. Williams's play Sisters tells the story of a near-death experience that results in healing powers. Wooley's poetry balances the theatrical with beautiful and poignant views of Irish life. In addition to these new student works, UB Theater Events Coordinator Kimberley Lynne will debut her play Hood, also inspired by the trip to Ireland. Hood tells the story of 19th century executioner Lady Betty.
These powerful performances will be framed by historical context of the current political situation in Northern Ireland, complemented with images of the island.
Tickets for Reflections and Echoes are $8 general and $5 students and proceeds from this fundraiser will help fund UB students for the 2013 summer residency.
