Writing in the Harvard Division of Continuing Education's The Language of Business blog, Steven D. Cohen, assistant professor in the Klein Family School of Communications Design, notes that public speaking offers an opportunity to display leadership.
"To become a powerful public speaker, you must identify your ingrained speaking patterns and determine the impact that they are having on your capacity to lead," Cohen writes. "Do you nervously adjust your glasses or run your hands through your hair? Do you say 'um' or 'uh' every few words? Once you identify these habits, you can challenge yourself to adjust them."
Cohen also offers some helpful tips on how to polish public speaking skills.
