The University of Baltimore's new Bee Line program, available this fall for students at Montgomery College, offers a new, faster way for students to start earning four-year college credits at the same time they are pursuing their associate degree. For both of UB’s academic programs at the Universities at Shady Grove—the B.S. in Health Systems Management and the B.S. in Simulation and Digital Entertainment—Montgomery College undergraduates can use the Bee Line program to take classes in these majors while they finish up their two-year degree.
With the Bee Line, Montgomery College students can reach courses in their major sooner: While still enrolled at the community college, they may take two 300-level courses at USG. Other benefits include guaranteed admission to UB's academic program at Shady Grove, priority advising for their Montgomery College courses, and early access to student services provided by the University of Baltimore.
Credits for courses in the Bee Line program are shared equally between UB and Montgomery College. As a result, students save money and time.
UB's academic offerings at Shady Grove are designed for career-minded students who are preparing to enter some of the most exciting fields of the 21st century economy.
"The UB Health Systems Management Undergraduate and Master’s degree is preparing graduates for the changing health care environment," said Christine Spencer, executive director of UB's School of Health and Human Services. "The Affordable Care Act has created many opportunities for well-prepared professionals, and the UB program is here to help train the next generation of health care managers. We offer courses in health care management, policy, information systems and financial management. Our Saturday program is a good fit for the working professionals who come to UB to advance their career."
Aaron Oldenburg, director of the Simulation and Digital Entertainment program, said, "The SDE program is split into four tracks, one of which is focused on serious games design. These are games and other simulations for educational and training purposes. Students have been hired out of our program to work in gaming and simulation-related jobs for the Library of Congress, the National Security Agency, the Baltimore serious games company Breakaway Games, and 3D contractor Direct Dimensions."
The priority deadline for students to submit their Bee Line application is Sunday, June 15 for fall 2014 admission, or Saturday, Nov. 15 for spring 2015 admission.
