The University of Baltimore's Helen P. Denit Honors Program will present a reading and workshop by poet Mahogany L. Browne on Thursday, Oct. 9, at 3 p.m. in the Wright Theater in UB's Student Center, 21 W. Mt. Royal Ave. Browne's appearance will focus on performance poetry, and attendees are invited to participate in the workshop following her reading. The event is free and open to the public. Browne is an award-winning poet, speaker, journalist and publisher. She is the recipient of fellowships from Cave Canem and Poet's House, and is the current curator and host for the Friday Night series at the Nuyorican Poet's Café. Browne’s poetry and prose have been widely published, and her most recent projects include Redbone: A Biomythography, #Dear Twitter: Love Letters Hashed Out Online in 140 Characters or Less, and Swag.
Browne's interactive workshop will offer insights in developing aesthetics, feedback methods, and revisions strategies for crafting poetry and writing for performance.
