In an interview with SCOTUSblog, University of Baltimore School of Law Professor Garrett Epps reveals the inspiration behind his new book, American Justice 2014: Nine Clashing Visions on the Supreme Court.
"I wanted to write something accessible to non-lawyers and fun to read; I wanted to provide some knowledge and insight into each Justice and the varying judicial approaches I have seen; and finally I wanted to write not the consensus view but my own, which has a definite point of view," Epps says.
He says that the Court's last term convinced him that its partisan divisions have become "fairly extreme."
In the book's last chapter, called "Justice in Red and Blue," Epps describes a Court that is split by political party "in a way no other court has ever been."
