President Schmoke: 'Education is the Key' to Solving City's Problems

In The Washington Post's coverage of the recent civil unrest that has rocked Baltimore, University of Baltimore President Kurt Schmoke adds an important message: Education solves problems.
"I think education is the key component to solving these problems. There are a lot of jobs here in Baltimore, some [there for the taking]," Schmoke said. "But there is a gap between the literacy levels and what is required for those jobs. ... Today the biggest employers [in Baltimore] are Johns Hopkins University and Health System, producing jobs that require a level of education and literacy that is higher than most people had to attain 40 years ago."
