Four new members of the faculty will join the University of Baltimore beginning with the Spring 2016 semester, teaching in the University's College of Public Affairs and its Yale Gordon College of Arts and Sciences and serving in its Langsdale Library.
UB’s newest faculty members are:
- Kristin Conlin, joining Langsdale Library as a reference and instruction librarian.
- Al Gourrier, joining the School of Public and International Affairs as an assistant professor. Gourrier’s research focuses on local governments with an emphasis on urban policy, including government expenditures and issues related to income equality. He is a former bank president.
- Jessica Sowa, joining the School of Public and International Affairs as an associate professor. Sowa’s research focuses on public and nonprofit organizations, organizational effectiveness and collaboration.
- D. Watkins, M.F.A. '14, joining the Klein Family School of Communications Design as an instructor. Watkins is an award-winning writer, speaker and educator whose recent book, The Beast Side: Living and Dying While Black in America has received national acclaim.
"UB continues to attract outstanding faculty members across the disciplines and in interdisciplinary areas, as exemplified by these new appointments," said UB Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Joseph Wood. "I am especially pleased that we were able to recruit one of our own to the ranks of the faculty—D. Watkins joins UB’s hidden gem of a program in creative writing. Sowa and Gourrier add important strengths to UB's growing School of Public and International Affairs and the College of Public Affairs, and Conlin complements the critical instructional work of our reference librarians."
