Jeffrey Ian Ross, professor in the University of Baltimore's School of Criminal Justice, tells WBAL-TV that podcasts, social media and other communication tools are broadening the public's reach in the pursuit of justice.
"It's holding [the criminal justice system] even more accountable," and provides a platform for police and court officials to explain their decisions, Ross said.
Conversely, these modern communication tools also present new challenges, such as the temptation to follow conspiracy theories or to second guess the process.
"We do not have 360-degree vision," Ross said.
