This message was sent to the UB community from President Kurt L. Schmoke and Provost and Executive Vice President Darlene Brannigan Smith:
Today the University of Baltimore community is mourning the loss of Joseph Blevins, director of the Office of Financial Aid and an integral part of our UB family. Joe died in Saturday night's flash flooding in Ellicott City, one of two who perished in that disaster. We are shocked and saddened by his passing.
Joe came to UB in May 2008, hired as associate director of financial aid and technology. He was promoted to director of the office in October 2014. Widely known around the institution for his calm demeanor, good sense of humor and helpful attitude, Joe strongly believed in the role of financial assistance in transforming students' lives. He had an important job and he did it amazingly well. We know we speak for his many colleagues at UB when we say that he will be greatly missed. We express our sorrow and deepest sympathy to Joe's family, friends and co-workers.
Sincerely,
Kurt L. Schmoke
