Short Plays, All 'Variations on Blame,' Kick Off Spotlight UB's Fall Season

Variations on Blame, a series of short plays on the topic of blame, will kick off this fall's Spotlight UB series of live events on Sept. 9. This collection of world-premiere 10-minute plays by authors from the Washington-Baltimore area, is a co-production of Spotlight UB and Rapid Lemon Productions. The stage production marks the 12th annual presentation of the Variations Project. It will take place in the Wright Theater in the University of Baltimore Student center, 21 W. Mt. Royal Ave. Dates, times and ticket information are listed below.
Varations on Blame performances will take place Sept. 9 at 8 p.m.; Sept. 10 at 2 and 8 p.m.; Sept. 13 at 2 p.m.; Sept. 15 at 8 p.m.; Sept. 16 at 8 p.m.; and Sept.17 at 2 and 8 p.m.
Directed by Lance Bankerd, Variations on Blame consists of the following short plays, each written for the project based on source material developed at the annual Variations Party last spring:

- Smell the Blame by Kevin Kostic
- Ledger by Justin Lawson Isett
- Sixteen Thousand and One by Kimberley Lynne
- I Remember by Kevin J. Costa
- Forever to Go by Shelby Chapman
- Baby's Breath Never Dies by Michal Roxie Johnson
- Affluenza by Paddy O'Carroll
The Variations Project was founded in 2005 by Run of the Mill Theater and has produced a collection of new short works each year since. It was named Outstanding Experimental Production by the Greater Baltimore Theater Awards and Best Production by City Paper. This year marks the second Variations Project under the direction of Rapid Lemon Productions and the first to be presented at the Wright Theater.
The 2016 theme of blame was chosen by audience vote during performances of 2015's Variations on Family. Audiences who attend Variations on Blame will vote to select the theme for the 2017 Variations Project.
General admission seating is $20, or $10 for University of Baltimore students with ID.

Rapid Lemon Productions was founded in 2012 as an independent theater company in the Baltimore/Washington area whose mission is to develop and present new, local work for the stage. Its prior productions have appeared at Woolly Mammoth and THEARC in Washington, and at the Maryland Institute College of Art and Theatre Project in Baltimore.
