Three professors from the University of Baltimore are recipients of a 2017 University System of Maryland Regents' Faculty Award. Alan Lyles, professor in the School of Health and Human Services in the College of Public Affairs, Renita Seabrook, associate professor in the School of Criminal Justice in the College of Public Affairs, and Angela Vallario, associate professor in the School of Law, were given the honor. They will be formally presented with their awards at the Board of Regents meeting on April 21 at the University of Maryland, College Park.
Prof. Lyles was recognized for Excellence in Scholarship, Research or Creative Activity. Prof. Seabrook was recognized for Excellence in Public Service. Prof. Vallario received the award in the category of Excellence in Mentoring.
"Angela, Alan and Renita are all highly regarded at the University of Baltimore for their teaching, research and service," said UB President Kurt L. Schmoke. "The Board of Regents’ recognition means that this regard extends across the state, the region and beyond. I am so proud to be their colleague and our entire community shares in this pride."
"This year the Regents Awards are also a great reflection of the University’s commitment to community engagement, to excellence in public policy and to commitment to legal and social justice," said Darlene Smith, executive vice president and provost at UB. "The University of Baltimore is for Baltimore, for the strengthening of our city and the improvement of people's lives in our local communities. All three faculty winners offer ample proof of that commitment."
The awards are the highest honor bestowed by the Board of Regents in recognition of exemplary faculty achievements. Each year, up to 17 awards in five categories—mentoring; public service; research/scholarship/creative activity; teaching; and innovation—are presented to faculty from across the USM.
