The University of Baltimore will host the 14th annual CityLit Festival on Saturday, April 29 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the William H. Thumel Sr. Business Center (home of the Merrick School of Business), 11 W. Mt. Royal Ave. This celebration of literature features talks by local, regional and nationally-recognized authors, how-to sessions on publishing, meet-and-greets with journal representatives, and more.
This year's headliner is author and activist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, who will speak on-air with WYPR in UB's John and Frances Angelos Law Center (home of the School of Law), 1401 N. Charles St.. Her talk will tkae place from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Due to high demand, the Business Center's M. Scot Kaufman Auditorium has been designated as overflow seating for Adichie's talk, where a livestream of the event will be shown. Registration is available online.
Best known for her viral TED Talks, "The Danger of a Single Story" and "We Should All Be Feminists," Adichie received a MacArthur Genuis Grant in 2008 and published her sixth book, Dear Ijeawele, or a Feminist Manifesto in Fifteen Suggestions, in March 2017. Born in Nigeria, her work has been translated into 30 languages and has appeared in various publications around the world.
Other festival events include creative sessions on writing styles and skills, artist meet-ups, panel discussions, and more. UB's Barnes & Noble Bookstore on Oliver Street will be selling guest authors' books throughout the day. The CityLit Festival is free and open to the public.
