Two University of Baltimore College of Public Affairs students and four faculty members recently attended and presented at an international gathering of experts in transparency in research—an important topic in an era of dubious news sources, illicit websites and questionable practices related to the gathering and presentation of factual information. The 5th Global Conference on Transparency Research was held June 19-21 at the University of Limerick in Ireland.
School of Public and International Affairs faculty members Al Gourrier, Lorenda Naylor, Kelechi Uzochukwu and Heather Wyatt-Nichol all attended and presented at the conference, as did Doctor of Public Administration candidate Yinglee Tseng and Master of Public Administration student Evangula Brown.
"In an era of fake news, in the challenging 'post factual' age, at a time when social media dramatically changes the ways people engage with the public sphere, the opportunities for manipulation and less than
transparent decision making and policy implementation inevitably grow," reads a letter given by conference organizers to all attendees.
