In an article in The Baltimore Sun, University of Baltimore President Kurt Schmoke and College of Public Affairs Dean Roger Hartley offer comments about Baltimore City Mayor Catherine Pugh's first year on the job.
"She understood that public safety was an important issue," Schmoke says. "I know she was hoping that it wouldn't be the issue."
Hartley points out that Pugh continues to develop relationships with the City Council, which now has a majority of new members.
"It's not the same old Baltimore politics,” Hartley says. "She's going to have to bend to the interests of these council members and vice versa. I think we're seeing the kind of political change that people voted for."
