The University of Baltimore's Women of Color Student Association and the University's live performance series, Spotlight UB, will present Eve Ensler's legendary play, The Vagina Monologues, on April 19-20. Directed by graduate student Samantha Allen, the performance will take place beginning each night at 7 p.m. in the Wright Theater, located in the UB Student Center, 21 W. Mt. Royal Ave. A reception and cast talkback, sponsored by the University's Office of Government and Public Policy, will be held on opening night. The play is open to the public; attendance details are listed below.
The Vagina Monologues is a celebration of female sexuality in all its complexity and mystery. In this live-theater phenomenon, which debuted Off-Broadway in 1996, Ensler uses interviews and an episodice format to tell women's stories of intimacy, vulnerability, and sexual self-discovery.
A portion of the proceeds from performances will be donated to Girls' Empowerment Mission, a Living Classrooms Foundation program. GEM empowers high school girls from underserved communities by providing opportunities and growth experiences that will enable them to become independent, self-sufficient, and confident young women.
Tickets are $5 for students, $10 for general admission, and $15 at the door. Tickets can be purchased online at ubwomenspeak.eventbrite.com.
