Two faculty members from the University of Baltimore—Andrea Cantora, assistant professor in the School of Criminal Justice, and John Bessler, associate professor in the School of Law—were among 16 faculty members from throughout the University System of Maryland to receive USM Regents Faculty Awards for 2018. The awards were presented during the Board of Regents meeting at UMUC on April 20.
Cantora received an Excellence in Public Service award, and Bessler received an Excellence in Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity award.
The awards are the highest honor presented by the board to exemplary faculty members. The awards honor excellence in the following four categories: teaching; research, scholarship and creative activity; public service; and mentoring. Faculty nominating committees from each USM institution make recommendations to their respective presidents, who review nominations and supporting material and forward recommendations to USM Chancellor Robert L. Caret. The Regents Faculty Review Committee makes the final recommendations.
Each award carries a $2,000 prize provided by the institutions and the University System of Maryland Foundation. Chancellor Caret and Board of Regents Chair James Brady presented the awards.
