Sally D. Farley, associate professor in the Division of Applied Behavioral Sciences in the Yale Gordon College of Arts and Sciences and director of the undergraduate psychology program, is the recipient of the 2018 President’s Faculty Award. Prof. Farley will be honored at a luncheon during the fall semester.
This meritorious award is the highest that UB's president may bestow upon a member of the faculty, and is based on letters of nomination from the deans to a selection committee in the Office of the Provost.
In announcing the selection of Prof. Farley for this year's award, President Kurt L. Schmoke said, "I especially admire her devotion to the entire institution, which is evident in her willingness to lead the University's Helen P. Denit Honors program, a role she took on as of last fall. In that position, she also chairs the Honors Council and represents the honors program to external groups."
Of Prof. Farley, Dean Christine Spencer wrote: "Dr. Sally Farley's clear strength is her commitment to engaged learning incorporating strong components of excellence in teaching, research and service. She has provided students with numerous opportunities to conduct original research, present their findings in public venues and publish alongside her."
She added that Prof. Farley "has that rare quality of inspiring students to do more than they realized they were capable."
Prof. Farley has instituted creative and exciting approaches to introduce more students to the discipline of psychology, such as the Colloquium-on-the-Go series, which brings our faculty to area community colleges for discussions, Q&A sessions and more. She also has taken steps to establish a strong community within the psychology program, by including all faculty members in key divisional events.
In a message to the UB community, Pres. Schmoke congratulated Prof. Farley on her achievement, and thanked the selection committee for its work.
