Prof. Renita Seabrook Wins Award for Book Chapter on Mass Incarceration and Black Women

A book chapter co-authored by Renita L. Seabrook, associate professor in the University of Baltimore's School of Criminal Justice, has received national recognition from the Emerald Literati Network. The chapter, "The New Jane Crow: Mass Incarceration and the Denied Maternity of Black Women," is taken from the book Race, Ethnicity and Law.
The Emerald Literati Network is part of Emerald Publishing, a publishing concern with a portfolio of nearly 300 journals, more than 2,500 books and more than 1,500 teaching cases. Prof. Seabrook and her fellow author, Chenelle A. Jones, a faculty member in criminal justice administration at Franklin University, received the Outstanding Author Contribution recognition in the category of Sociology of Crime, Law and Deviance.
According to its abstract, "The New Jane Crow" "examines how the intersection of race, class, and gender impact the experiences of Black women and their children within a broader socio-historical context."
