Ivan Sascha Sheehan, associate professor and executive director of the University of Baltimore's School of Public and International Affairs, has written Iran's Resurgent Resistance, a new book on U.S. policy toward Iran. The book, subtitled Bipartisan U.S. Delegation Visits with MEK Opposition at Ashraf 3, details a visit made by a group of U.S. officials to a key outpost of Iran's resistance community. Prof. Sheehan, a scholar on counterterrorism and a leader on evolving U.S. policy toward Iran, asserts that these dissidents are in the best position to bring about democratic change to the Middle East hotspot.
Prof. Sheehan has written about conflict in the region before, most recently in his foreword to former ambassador Lincoln J. Bloomfield Jr.'s monograph, The Ayatollahs and the MEK–Iran's Crumbling Influence Operation, from 2019.
Iran's Resurgent Resistance, which includes a preface by Senator Joseph Lieberman, is receiving praise from high-ranking government officials in the intelligence community, as well as the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Defense, and the Department of State.
"The aspirations we have for the people of Ashraf 3 and the people of Iran are that they achieve the support and the dignity they so rightfully deserve," writes Marc Ginsberg, former U.S. Ambassador to Morocco. "Thank you to Professor Sheehan for documenting for the world what we all witnessed during the U.S. delegation's visit with the Iranian opposition."
"Congratulations to Professor Sheehan on his outstanding book," writes Louis Freeh, former director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. "I was deeply honored to be included in this event. The residents of Ashraf 3 showed me that their inspiration, their prayers, and their commitment to freedom were sufficient to sustain and carry them. Ashraf 3 serves as a testimonial to what can be achieved throughout Iran if a progressive government replaces the existing fundamentalist regime."
