Marcy Dermansky, author of the critically acclaimed novels Very Nice, The Red Car, Bad Marie and Twins, will be a guest of the University of Baltimore's Spring Reading Series, hosted by the M.F.A. in Creative Writing and Publishing Arts, on Monday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. in the Bogomolny Room in the UB Student Center, 21 W. Mt. Royal Ave. The event is free and open to the public.
Dermansky, who lives in Montclair, N.J., has received high praise for both her novels and short fiction. Very Nice received positive reviews in The Washington Post, NY Newsday, NPR, People and elsewhere, while Buzzfeed, the San Francisco Chronicle, Flavorwire, and the Huffington Post named The Red Car one of the year's best books. Dermansky's debut novel, Twins, was a New York Times Editor's Choice Pick.
Dermansky's short fiction has been widely published and anthologized by McSweeney's, Guernica, The Indiana Review, Lenny Letter and more. Her essay, "Maybe I Loved You," appeared in the anthology Goodbye to All That: Writers on Loving and Leaving New York.
Dermansky has received fellowships from The MacDowell Colony and The Edward Albee Foundation. She is the winner of the Smallmouth Press Andre Dubus Novella Award and Story Magazine's Carson McCullers short story prize.
Dermansky received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Haverford College and a Master of Arts degree at the Center for Writers at the University of Southern Mississippi.
