The University of Baltimore will host its first-ever virtual commencement ceremonies for undergraduate and graduate students on Thursday, May 20, beginning at noon.
The ceremonies will include a series of video and web pages which can be accessed asynchronously—available any time the viewer wants to access it—including remarks from President Kurt L. Schmoke and University System of Maryland Regent Geoff J. Gonella. Gonella is president and managing director of Cornerstone, a Washington D.C.-based employee-owned consulting firm that specializes in government relations, public affairs, strategic communications and business advisory services.
Special ceremonies will highlight the Yale Gordon College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Public Affairs, and the Merrick School of Business. The deans of each college will provide greetings, and each ceremony will include a student speaker from that college:
- Yale Gordon College of Arts and Sciences: Pamela Gibbs
- College of Public Affairs: Sonce Reese
- Merrick School of Business: Prithviraj Bhosale
"UBalt alumni are changing the world," says President Schmoke. "For nearly 100 years, our graduates have contributed mightily to the cause of a more just, equitable, accessible and livable world. Through good times and times of strife, the extraordinary people who make up the University's alumni base continue to learn, teach, and do. It is inspiring to know that, both here in Maryland, across the country and even around the world, the UBalt family is working hard and making a difference."
More than 1,400 students from the classes of 2020 and 2021 will be featured during the May 20 event, many of whom have provided photos and quotes about their UBalt experience. The site will include student and faculty honors, and special videos to commemorate the occasion. Graduates, guests, and members of the UBalt community can view the ceremony at any time, and the content will be available for one year.
