The University of Baltimore's MFA in Creative Writing and Publishing Arts program is now accepting applications for funding from its 2023 Klein Social Justice Fellowship. Up to three fellowships will be offered to newly accepted students in this master's program, beginning this fall. Fellowships ranging from $3,500 to $8,000 will be awarded.
Interested new applicants to the program are encouraged to apply for the award. They should include an addendum to their MFA application essay. In 500-1,000 words, describe how you and your writing support social justice.
Betsy Boyd, director of the MFA in Creative Writing and Publishing Arts, says: "How have you helped your community? Is this something you've written about? What do you think matters most in today's turbulent world and for tomorrow's hopefully sustainable future? When considering this award, we on the MFA scholarship committee want to read writing that takes into account what matters most to humanity at a time when too many people feel disenfranchised, on edge, underfunded, and unheard."
The award—provided by UBalt alumnus Michael F. Klein, B.A. '76—aims to emphasize the role of the arts in calling attention to issues of social justice and injustice in American society. Michael Klein is a member of the Klein family, whose contributions to UBalt established the Klein Family School of Communications Design in 2013.
Apply today to the MFA in Creative Writing and Publishing Arts MFA program. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
