A new symphonic work by Ian Power, assistant professor and director of the Arts Production and Management program at The University of Baltimore, as well as a noted composer, is now available online following its April premiere as part of the Tectonics Glasgow Festival in Scotland.
Conductor Ilan Volkov led the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra in performing Power's BYE BYE LOVE as part of the closing concert of the festival, alongside music by Margaret Hoenderdos, William Dougherty, and Ingrid Laubrock.
This new work, Power's first for symphony orchestra, is a 16-minute composition featuring virtuosic passages, gradual changes in volume, and sharp shifts in modulation. While the work tests the stamina of both musicians and audience, it "brings a loving, rapturous clarity in its insistence," Power says.
The symphonic work is avaialble for a limited time on the BBC's Tectonics Festival channel.
