Urban Alliance-Baltimore Honors UBalt with 2023 Community Partner of the Year Award

The University of Baltimore has received recognition for its long-time work with Urban Alliance-Baltimore via the organization's 2023 Community Partner of the Year Award. The award acknowledges the University's efforts in support of the Urban Alliance High School Internship Program, in which qualified city high school students receive education- and job-oriented training, mentoring opportunities, and paid work experience.
UBalt, City to Launch Community Violence Interruption Certificate for Safe Streets Employees

The University of Baltimore and the Mayor's Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement (MONSE) have entered into an agreement to launch a Community Violence Interruption Certificate for employees of Baltimore's Safe Streets program. The certificate will feature a curriculum developed by faculty in the University's College of Public Affairs' Negotiations and Conflict Management program and UBalt's Schaefer Center for Public Policy.
School of Law's Center for Families, Children and the Courts Wins Award, Names New Executive Director

The Sayra and Neil Meyerhoff Center for Families, Children and the Courts at the University of Baltimore School of Law has earned the 2023 Impact of the Year Award from the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges. The center also has named Aubrey Edwards-Luce as executive director. A zealous advocate for children, youth and families, Edwards-Luce most recently served as vice president of child welfare and youth justice at First Focus on Children, a bipartisan advocacy organization dedicated to making children and families the priority in federal policy and budget decisions.
University of Baltimore Foundation Announces Joan Worthington as Board Chair

Joan M. Worthington, B.S. '84, M.B.A. '91, has been named board chair for The University of Baltimore Foundation. The foundation, a designated 501c3 first established in 1969, assists in the financial well-being of the University, and provides leadership and guidance to the UBalt administration in advancing the institutional mission.
Advancing Change, One Neighborhood at a Time: 14th Annual Baltimore Data Day, July 21

The Baltimore Neighborhood Indicators Alliance-Jacob France Institute (BNIA-JFI) will host the 14th annual Baltimore Data Day, a free event at The University of Baltimore for community leaders, nonprofit organizations, government entities, and civic-minded technologists to gather together and discuss community-based data and learn how others use that data to support and advance change in their neighborhoods, will be held at UBalt on July 21. The event is the culmination of Baltimore Data Week.

UBalt, USM Issue Statements on Supreme Court Decision on Affirmative Action

In response to the Supreme Court decision on affirmative action, the University System of Maryland has issued a statement. "Certainly, diversity is a guiding principle for the USM, whose mission is 'to educate and serve the people of Maryland, to advance equity, justice, and opportunity, and to produce the research and scholarship that improve lives," writes USM Chancellor Jay A. Perman. "Today's decision doesn't change this mission." UBalt President Kurt L. Schmoke says: "The University of Baltimore has a well-established, holistic process for evaluating applicants. It encompasses academics, rigor, personal achievements, and character. We embrace the diversity of all who seek admission."
