"When I reach a hundred my work will be truly
sublime, and my final goal will be attained
around the age of one hundred and ten,
when every line and dot I draw
will be imbued with life."
—Hokusai
Ingrid Ankerson designed the cover for issue 34 using sections of Hokusai's (1760-1849) color woodcut The Great Wave Off Kanagawa from his series Thirty-six Views of Fuji. Hokusai was a Japanese painter, wood engraver, and one of the foremost Ukiyo-e, or "pictures of the floating world" print designers. A stubborn, true bohemian artist, Hokusai was obsessed with art and left over 30,000 works including silk paintings, woodblock prints, illustrations, paintings and sketches.
