The University of Baltimore values the contributions of its faculty throughout their career with the University and beyond. Three faculty policies (Phased Retirement, Engaged Retirement, Emeritus Faculty) were created as a result of an Alfred P. Sloan Awards for Career Flexibility to provide a foundation on which retired faculty could maintain a continuing relationship with the University of Baltimore. Benefits provided in the policies encourage that continuing relationship.
In order for retired faculty to take advantage of the services and benefits outlined in the policies, the Office of the Provost is working with the appropriate units to develop guidelines and procedures to implement the policies. For example, retired faculty will need to have an identification card for purposes of utilizing library services and athletic facilities. Certain privileges, such as library or e-mail access, require annual requests for continuation as well.
When finalized, the procedures will be available in the Faculty Handbook and on the Provost’s web site and will be linked to the policies.
