AFRICAN AMERICAN ARTS FESTIVAL

During the week of February 25-27, the Office of Diversity Education and Programs, Student Events Board and Spotlight UB will co-sponsor an African American Arts Festival, featuring a conversation with Congressman Elijah Cummings Monday 11AM, a staged reading of James McBride by Mark Clayton Southers and produced by Run of the Mill Theater Monday at 7pm, spiritual comics S. Nev and the Rev Tuesday 3-5pm, harmonica beat boxer Shodekah on Tuesday 7pm, Express Yourself open mike following Shodekah, Janks Morton's documentary What Black Men Think on Wednesday at 1pm, and storyteller Janice Curtis Greene on Wednesday at 4pm. *All events are free of charge but donations are encouraged.

Baltimore's premiere comedy troupe, the Early Monday Morning Show, performs high energy improv games and comedy skits March 13 at 8:15pm with two special comedic stand-up guests, Michael Aronin and Jared Stern. Student Events Board will co-sponsor this event that turns the Student Center's theater into a comedy cabaret with light reception and $2 drinks. Tickets are $10 general, $7 staff and faculty and $5 for students, and can be purchased here.
This event is organized by Spotlight UB and Student Events Board.

A DAY IN D.C.: NATIONAL CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL

Join us for a day of fun at our nation's capitol in celebration of the National Cherry Blossom Festival. *Coach tickets are available at $5 each for UB students with valid I.D. (limited to 4 per I.D.), and are available at Rosenberg Center for Student Involvement, Student Center, Room 303. (Tel: 410-837-5417, csi@ubalt.edu). *There are 2 handicap accessible seats which must be purchased by March 21. While supplies last.

Three-and-a-half hours of musical entertainment including performances by the Army Band and Sea Chanties. Pirates will be on to set the nautical mood. Families can enjoy a sailboat making activity as well as learn more about sailboats and view demonstrations presented by the National Maritime Heritage Foundation. Food and beverages will be available for purchase from Southwest Waterfront-area vendors.

Want to see the cherry blossoms by a new light? How about at night? Guided by the light of festive lanterns, a Ranger will lead you on a 1.5- mile walk around the Tidal Basin and through the history of the blossoms.

Some of the finest paintings from the Japanese Edo period - masterworks from the world-renowned Price Collection - are featured in Patterned Feathers, Piercing Eyes. The 109 paintings on display recently were part of a highly acclaimed four-venue tour in Japan, where the exhibition attracted more than 800,000 visitors.
